Psychology After Child Birth

 

Pregnancy and adjusting to a new baby is rewarding but it is also a time of significant changes, challenges and pressures. It can be a stressful time during which you have to make a lot of adjustments. The degree of stress can vary and can become very uncomfortable. If you are experiencing any of the following on a day to day basis, it may be time to talk to someone who can give you tools to help you cope with the changes, demands and pressure that you are experiencing:

 

  • feeling increased levels of sadness or teariness

  • a loss of interest in some or all of your day to day activities

  • increased irritability

  • reduced self-esteem and confidence

  • feeling less hungry or losing weight

  • broken sleep (irrespective of baby) and difficulty getting to sleep

  • feeling hopeless like you are a failure or not worthwhile or inadequate as a parent

  • thoughts of not wanting to be around

  • anxiety including panic attacks

  • worrying consistently about baby or partner’s safety

  • worrying about being alone with baby
